Garbage
As you may know we are going through a conflict right now and adults are well aware of it but not as many kids. So I don't want to scare you so if you think you might freak out at the information I am about to share may I suggest not reading it!
Right now there is a garbage patch in the Pacific Ocean it is 135 degrees W to 155 degrees W and 35 degrees N and 42 degrees N. The patch stretches a huge area of the Pacific Ocean many people think that it was formed by marine pollution or littering. The litter is sometimes found of the coast of Japan and North America. The litter is grabbed by the currents and slowly moved to the middle, trapping it there. Scientists estimate the patch is about 700000 square kilometers (270000 sq. mi.) it is 0.41% to 8.1% size of the Pacific Ocean. Some say it is twice the size of the U.S. The garbage if you were wondering has a huge impact on the animals. The garbage is out in the sea and the birds come down and think it is a fish and they grab it and swallow it so it ends up clogging their digestive system and they die. Another common thing is the birds will carry the garbage to their young and they will feed their young the garbage and then their young will die. Right now very little is happening to it. a while ago the beaches of Hawaii, Maui and other island's beaches were covered in garbage until an organization called Method sent workers to clean some of it up.
One of the main reasons the patch is getting bigger is because it is already so big nobody wants to clean it up! But some people are thoughtful enough that they go out there and help out. Another reason is we are already so busy with our lives that we don't really think about what impact it has on the world and that is why I created this website. To hopefully bring it to your attention, because do we want the next generation to have to do this on their own? So if you are with me and want to help you can do this one simple thing! You can do it at work, at home or even on vacation! All you have to do is if you see a piece of garbage on the ground then you can pick it up! It would sit on the ground then it would rain and it would be guided into the drain and if it were an overflow of rain then it would flow into rivers and go out to sea and join the garbage patch!
